"Knowledge is not expertise. Knowledge is the million ways to throw a basketball that might go in; expertise is the few things that make it go in every time."

What it is

Career Domain Expertise is the second branch off Customer Domain Expertise. The expertise to operate yourself across roles, companies, and industries by applying the customer-modeling discipline and the operating-model discipline personally.

The framework does not change when you change roles or companies. Your customer modeling skill is the same. Your company-operating-model thinking is the same. What changes is your role's responsibilities and metrics. The underlying discipline is identical in every seat on the customer flywheel.

You cannot do Career Domain Expertise without operating in both prior domains. The portfolio you build for career mobility is the demonstration that you can do customer modeling and company operating-model design in real seats. Without the underlying discipline, career artifacts collapse into a list of past responsibilities, and that list does not transfer across companies or role families.

Two mobility patterns matter. Vertical mobility is the standard career path: CSM, Senior CSM, Manager, Director, VP, CCO. Other career tools cover this. Horizontal mobility is the differentiated angle: Sales to CS, Support to Onboarding, Onboarding to CSM, CS to Product, Marketing to CS Ops. Most career tools miss this because they treat each role family as a separate skill set. EP treats the underlying discipline as the constant, which makes any seat on the customer flywheel accessible to anyone who has mastered the framework.

The Career Domain Expertise asset is portable by design. The Customer Results Map you built for one company is yours. The Operating Model proposal you authored is yours. The 10 principles you operate by are yours. Each iteration through a role compounds your portfolio. The discipline produces a Lifetime Loop: the methodology re-runs at every promotion, every team change, every company change, and the artifacts you accumulate become the demonstration that you can do it again somewhere new.

The Role Strategy Planner is the per-role application. Where the Customer Strategy Planner applies a Customer Results Map to one customer, the Role Strategy Planner applies your universal portfolio to one role opportunity. Same logic, different scope.
